  • Acupuncture

Acupuncture is part of an integrated system of primary health care, known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which is believed to have originated in China at least two thousand years ago. Acupuncture focuses as much on the prevention of illness as on the treatment. The father of Chinese Medicine, Shen Nung, theorised that the body had an energy force running throughout it, known as Qi. The Qi consists of all essential life activities, including the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical aspects of life, therefore to influence the Qi energy is to influence the physiological functioning of the body. Qi travels throughout the body along "Meridians" or special pathways. Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into these specific sites (acupuncture points), along the body's meridians to clear energy blockages and encourage the normal flow of qi through the individual. Acupuncture points are specific locations where the Meridians come to the surface of the skin, and are easily accessible by "needling", therefore influencing the physiological functioning of the body. There are many diseases that can be treated successfully by Acupuncture. The most common ailments include back and neck problems, Cervical Spondylosis, Condylitis, Arthritic conditions, Headaches of all kinds (including migraine), Allergic reactions, general and specific use for Analgesia and the relief of muscle spasms. There have also been clinical trials in the use of Acupuncture in treating anxiety disorders and depression.

  • Allergy Testing

Our GP's provide the RAST (radioallergysorbent test) method of allergy testing which involves the taking of blood to identify what is causing your allergic reaction. A RAST test is primarily used to test for food allergies and other very common allergens. A pathology lab will expose your blood sample to different allergens such as grasses, mites or insects. Treatment may include allergy shots or allergy desensitisation, which involves injections of small amounts of the triggering allergen. Your body will react to the introduced allergen by building up immunity to it.

  • Bowen Technique

Bowen is a very gentle form of natural healing. A Bowen treatment involves light moves applied to specific areas of the body across muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It normalises and relaxes muscles and the nervous system which encourages the body to begin the healing process. There is no forceful manipulation. There are significant pauses between each move for the body to process and allow integration. The purpose is to retrain the body to work, so it can regain its innate ability to heal. The moves can be done over light clothing and it is a wonderful treatment for sensitive people and marvellous with children! Bowen is used in acute as well as chronic conditions. It is also excellent to maintain optimal body function as a preventive treatment to promote wellness and prevent wellness.

  • Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a psychological therapy and can be very effective in treating many problems and conditions. Unlike many other therapies, hypnotherapy aims to enable a person to overcome their problem in a relatively short space of time. In some cases, a client may just require a few sessions. Hypnotherapy is distinctive from other forms of psychological therapy as it addresses the subconscious mind in order to encourage beneficial change; consequently the root cause of a problem is treated. During hypnosis your subconscious mind becomes very aware and susceptible to beneficial change. I will use a number of techniques in order to encourage therapeutic change so that you can achieve your desired goals. After hypnosis, we will discuss any experiences that you have had during the session. In therapy, hypnosis usually involves the person experiencing a sense of deep relaxation with their attention narrowed down, and focused on appropriate suggestions made by the therapist. These suggestions help people make positive changes within themselves. Long gone are the days when hypnosis was seen as waving watches and controlling people's minds. In a hypnotherapy session you are always in control and you are not made to do anything. It is generally accepted that all hypnosis is ultimately self-hypnosis. A hypnotist merely helps to facilitate your experience - hypnotherapy is not about being made to do things, in fact it is the opposite, it is about empowerment Definition of hypnotherapy Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a state of deep sleep. It does involve the induction of a trance-like condition, but when in it, the patient is actually in an enhanced state of awareness, concentrating entirely on the hypnotist's voice. In this state, the conscious mind is suppressed and the subconscious mind is revealed. The therapist is able to suggest ideas, concepts and lifestyle adaptations to the patient, the seeds of which become firmly planted. The practice of promoting healing or positive development in any way is known as hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy aims to re-programme patterns of behaviour within the mind, enabling irrational fears, phobias, negative thoughts and suppressed emotions to be overcome. As the body is released from conscious control during the relaxed trance-like state of hypnosis, breathing becomes slower and deeper, the pulse rate drops and the metabolic rate falls. Similar changes along nervous pathways and hormonal channels enable the sensation of pain to become less acute, and the awareness of unpleasant symptoms, such as nausea or indigestion, to be alleviated. How does it work? Hypnosis is thought to work by altering our state of consciousness in such a way that the analytical left-hand side of the brain is turned off, while the non-analytical right-hand side is made more alert. The conscious control of the mind is inhibited, and the subconscious mind awoken. Since the subconscious mind is a deeper-seated, more instinctive force than the conscious mind, this is the part which has to change for the patient's behaviour and physical state to alter. For example, a patient who consciously wants to overcome their fear of spiders may try everything they consciously can to do it, but will still fail as long as their subconscious mind retains this terror and prevents the patient from succeeding. Progress can only be made be reprogramming the subconscious so that deep-seated instincts and beliefs are abolished or altered. What problems can be treated by hypnotherapy? Hypnotherapy can be applied to many psychological, emotional and physical disorders. It is used to relieve pain in surgery and dentistry and has proved to be of benefit in obstetrics. It can shorten the delivery stage of labour and reduce the need for painkillers. It can ease the suffering of the disabled and those facing terminal illness, and it has been shown to help people to overcome addictions such as smoking and alcoholism, and to help with eating disorders. Children are generally easy to hypnotise and can be helped with nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) and chronic asthma, whilst teenagers can conquer stammering or blushing problems which can otherwise make their lives miserable. Phobias of all kinds lend themselves well to hypnotherapy, and anyone suffering from panic attacks or obsessive compulsive behaviour, and stress-related problems like insomnia, may benefit. Conditions exacerbated by tension, such as irritable bowel syndrome, psoriasis and eczema, and excessive sweating, respond well, and even tinnitus and clicky jaws (tempero-mandibular joint dysfunction) can be treated by these techniques. General Practice As defined by The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, General Practice is the provision of primary continuing comprehensive whole-patient medical care to individuals, families and their communities. At Nature Care Wholistic Medical Centre our General Practitioners combine a traditional medical background with wholistic health principles, Integrating complementary therapies such as nutritional support and vitamin therapy into their practice.

The wholistic perspective simply means understanding that the physical body and symptoms are but one part of a greater picture also encompassing the mind and the spirit. When you visit a Naturopath they will take a thorough case history, (including family history), asking questions about diet, lifestyle, stress and environmental factors. Osteopathy is a form of manual healthcare which recognises the important link between the structure of the body and the way it functions. Osteopaths focus on how the skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, circulation, connective tissue and internal organs function as a holistic unit. Using skilled evaluation, diagnosis and a wide range of hands-on techniques, osteopaths can identify important types of dysfunction in your body. Osteopathic treatment uses techniques such as stretching and massage for general treatment of the soft tissues (muscles, tendons and ligaments) along with mobilisation of specific joints and soft tissues. In Australia, osteopaths are government registered practitioners who complete a minimum of five years' university training in anatomy, physiology, pathology, general medical diagnosis and osteopathic techniques. Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners and are trained to recognise conditions that require medical referral. They are also trained to perform standard medical examinations of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems. Osteopathy is covered by most private health funds and by Medicare's Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plans. Osteopaths are registered providers for DVA patients, as well as by workers’ compensation schemes and motor accident insurers. Dr Narelle Manwaring

  • Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is a form of body work used to treat specific areas of muscle tension caused by stess or injury. It will increase the flow of blood to injured tissue, therefore speeding up the repair process, allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed and cell health to be improved. Remedial massage is also great for general aches and pains, joint mobilisation, postural imbalances and is wonderful for relaxation and stress relief. Therapists may use compression or effleurage techniques, passive stretching or passive shortening, or a combination of these. One of the basic principles of massage is that each area of the body affects the other, as a result of this belief most massage therapists prefer to do a full body treatment with good quality natural oils.
